چکیده
Abstract Paper has always been of great importance as a printing and packaging material. Due to its potential for recyclability reusability, which result in low environmental impact, it is expected that this will soar over the coming years. Nevertheless, even though paper use decades, many research questions are still open, especially field mechanics. One these appropriate size representative volume element (RVE) microstructure paper. Therefore, finite network model interconnected fibers was developed represents In order create realistically, geometry material quantities were taken from experimental investigations. Additionally, single fiber bonds investigated beforehand incorporate their proper behavior into network. Based on this, networks generated subsequently loaded by applying mixed displacement traction boundary conditions. The resulting effective stresses compared determine necessary RVE size. Two approaches considered modeling RVE: (i) one “large” network, (ii) certain number smaller whose average yielded statistically response. As result, second approach turned out be less computationally intensive due models possibility run calculations simultaneously. Concluding, possible used investigate various individual microstructural effects macrostructure future.

Effect of Carbon Nanotube Geometries on Mechanical Properties of Nanocomposite Via Nanoscale Representative Volume Element
Predicting the effective elastic properties of carbon nanotube-reinforced nanocomposites is of great interest to many structural designers and engineers for improving material and configuration design in recent years. In this paper, a finite element model of a CNT composite has been developed using the Representative volume element (RVE) to evaluate the effective material properties of nanocomp...
متن کاملInfluence of representative volume element size on predicted elastic properties of polymer materials
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and micromechanical modeling are used to predict the bulk-level Young’s modulus of polycarbonate and polyimide polymer systems as a function of representative volume element (RVE) size and force field type. The bulk-level moduli are determined using the predicted moduli of individual finite-sized RVEs (microstates) using a simple averaging scheme and an energ...
متن کاملNumerical Homogenization of the Absolute Permeability Using the Conformal-Nodal and Mixed-Hybrid Finite Element Method
The modeling of hydrocarbon reservoirs and of aquifer-aquitard systems can be separated into two activities: geological modeling and fluid flow modeling. The geological model focuses on the geometry and the dimensions of the subsurface layers and faults, and on its rock types. The fluid flow model focuses on quantities like pressure, flux and dissipation, which are related to each other by rock...
متن کاملA Multiscale Finite Element Method for Numerical Homogenization
This paper is concerned with a multiscale finite element method for numerically solving second order scalar elliptic boundary value problems with highly oscillating coefficients. In the spirit of previous other works, our method is based on the coupling of a coarse global mesh and of a fine local mesh, the latter one being used for computing independently an adapted finite element basis for the...
